Just for a change.........

... because I know you're all getting bored by the views of our house in La Roda, with the wiring hanging out and the referbishment progressing very slowly, I thought I'd show you some pictures of our holiday to the Canary Islands (I took over 270 pics but you wouldn't want to see everything).
It was a special birthday for Ruth, so we did all seven Canary Islands in the following order....

1 Gran Canaria

We flew in to Gran Canaria, and this is the Hotel Hacienda de Anzo. A great little place on the out skirts of a small town called Santa Maria de Guia, where we stayed for two nights... Well it would have been two nights if Mick hadn't spent one of them in hospital, but that's another story.
So we didn't see much of the island. Really must go back there!

2 Fuerteventura

We flew from Gran Canaria to Fuerteventura.
Not a lot of history here, the place only took off in the 60's when tourism was introduced and that's it's main industry. Great beaches and surfing, if that's what you like. We were keen to get on that ferry to Lanzarote.

3 Lanzarote

We liked Lanzarote a lot. Toured the volcano that's Timanfaya (Fire Mountain), some great views from la Castillo de Santa Barbara and of Isla Graciosa from Mirador del Rio. That's a view across the pool where we stayed, at La Finca de Las Salinas.

4 La Palma

We're staying in Paradors now. That's a view of Santa Cruz de la Palma from our room, the road works are in Santa Cruz de la Palma, as is the the sea front. Oh yes, and a picture of the Parador.

5 La Gomera

From La Palma by ferry to La Gomera. Great hotel in San Sebastian on La Gomera, with a great pool. Met some interesing people and did a bit of sitting around under palm trees, drinking beer and looking at bananas......

........ but the best bit .......

.... was the boat trip dolphin watching!
Took a ferry along the coast to Valle Gran Rey, and from there a boat trip out to watch dolphins.
There is a moving picture I took with our digital camera, but I can't make that work on the blog.
If anyone knows how, let me know.

6 El Hierro

By ferry again to perhaps the best Island, El Hierro. There's lots of good stuff here, but I've mostly only put the Parador on the blog.
Look at that view from our room, we could hear the sea all night. It was great!
That rock has two names 'Roque de la Bonanza' and 'Rock of the Silent ocean', you choose. You can just see the Parador over the top of it.

7 Tenerife

An finally Tenerife. What a change! When we got to the Parador, 2250 meters above sea level at the foot of El Tiede, it was snowing! The next day the 'Carretera cortado por nieve' sign told us the road was blocked by snow, but it soon melted.
